In 1375, the cartographer Cresques Abraham of Majorca, in his Catalan Atlas, was the first to draw an ornate compass rose on a map. By the end of the 15th century, Portuguese cartographers began drawing multiple ornate compass roses throughout their charts. Since then, the Nautical Rose has saved countless lives. This example uses a black onyx base laid in solid 14k Gold and features 28 diamonds with 4 red rubies at the cardinal points. Beautiful in its perfect symmetry and refinement.
